I
chose Osgoode "because it has the international
reputation of being one of the top law schools with
the most extensive law library in the Commonwealth.
I wanted to incorporate research and writing into my
law school experience and I wanted the best facilities
available to me. Osgoode also had the reputation of
being a dynamic learning environment and I wanted to
do more than learn 'black letter law.' I wanted to attend
a school that would challenge me to think outside the
box. As a mature student, I also wanted to attend a
school that would not treat me like a blank slate."
The highlight of my experience "was being
able to continue my community involvement by working
on various committees representing the students and
finally serving as Chair of Student Caucus, which represented
the students on the governing body of the law school.
I did my writing and even got first prize in a national
essay competition. The absolute highlight was the opportunity
to learn from the many outstanding and caring professors,
to have my ideas challenged by faculty and students,
and to meet such interesting people - many of whom are
still friends."
What I learned "I was not going to get away
with sloppy thinking. If I had something to say, think
it through and be prepared to defend it. I learned to
think creatively, to use the law to solve problems in
business and the community. Everyone has a perspective.
Even if you do not agree with it, you can respect their
right to have that perspective. Most of all, I know
that I know I made the right choice in attending Osgoode
because I got a solid legal education that prepared
me to practise law."
